Walter Cooper Academy School 10

East Upper & Lower School was revitalized through a comprehensive multi-phased transformation designed to support its unique structure as the district’s first split-grade campus, serving grades 6–8 and 9–12 under separate administrations.  The project, driven by the University of Rochester’s Educational Partnership Organization (EPO), focused on creating specialized spaces tailored to each academic division. Highlights included a new collaboratorium—a flexible, technology-rich instructional space that serves as a hub for student collaboration, district-wide events, and town meetings. Other major additions included a fully equipped dental clinic and enhanced Career & Technical Education (CTE) facilities, offering students access to real-world skills and career training.

The renovations also prioritized structural and infrastructure upgrades to modernize the historic facility while maintaining its original character. Key improvements included the reconstruction of classroom wings, new HVAC systems, and updates to electrical and plumbing infrastructure. The phased construction ensured that students remained on campus throughout the process, fostering a sense of community during the transformation. By blending innovative educational spaces with state-of-the-art technology and modernized infrastructure, East Upper & Lower School now serves as a model for academic excellence and career readiness within the district.
