The Children’s School of Rochester, relocated to the historic School 1 site in the Cobbs Hill neighborhood, underwent a transformative renovation that balanced historic preservation with modern functionality. The project included restoring key architectural elements, such as the original building façade, while integrating six new classrooms, two Special Education classrooms, and resource rooms tailored to meet the diverse needs of students. A secure and enclosed courtyard was created for early childhood activities, providing a safe and engaging outdoor learning environment. These additions exemplify the school’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and innovation in education.
Site improvements further enhanced the school’s operational efficiency and community connectivity. A dedicated Pre-K entry and parent drop-off loop were constructed, along with expanded playgrounds and 50% more parking capacity to accommodate staff and visitors. The addition of natural lighting to formerly windowless spaces, such as the expanded café and kitchen, improved the overall ambiance and functionality of the facility. The renovation of The Children’s School of Rochester not only preserved its historic legacy but also positioned it as a model for integrating traditional and modern educational spaces, ensuring a bright future for students and the surrounding community.
