Edison Career & Technical High School experienced a transformative renovation to modernize its facilities and meet the evolving demands of Career and Technical Education (CTE). The project included extensive structural retrofits to stabilize the building’s unique post-tensioned waffle slab design, ensuring long-term safety and usability. New foundations, columns, and beams were introduced to support the structure, allowing for the integration of updated mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The facility’s internal layout was reconfigured to consolidate academic departments, fostering collaboration and efficiency. Highlights included a new media classroom, a broadcast studio with a control room, and a digital technology-enhanced makerspace at the heart of the school.
The upgrades also emphasized the importance of creating an engaging and functional environment for students. Additional improvements included window replacements, reconstructed parking lots, and an expanded bus loop to improve accessibility and safety. These changes allowed Edison to better serve its role as the city-wide hub for Career and Technical Education, providing students with cutting-edge resources to prepare for the 21st-century workforce. The enhanced facility stands as a testament to the district’s commitment to supporting skill development and academic excellence in a competitive global marketplace.
